Fun with Dick and Jane

vanou:

Jim Carrey didn't annoy me as much as I thought he would, which is a good thing.
I think the fact that Tea Leoni was playing the wife helped, I really like that actrice.
The movie was entertaining, with some "LOL" time for me... (again ask MP)
But Jim Carrey does his annoying body moves as some point in the movie, which I could go without.
The story line is interesting... a long long time ago in ... 2000...
And I didn't see the ending come from miles away, which is always fun for the audience.

Saw it, won't see it again, unless it's playing on tv and nothing else is on.

mp:

'We might be in a bit of a pickle, Dick!'

Don't you just love Téa Léoni. Like Vanou, I am not a huge fan of Jim Carrey. He's a bit out there for my taste. But, when paired with the down to earth Léoni, it created a nice balance. She toned him down, without being boring herself. It was a better movie than I thought it would be to be honest. The preview made it up as a much more slapstick comedy than anything else. I was happy to see it was about a little more than a couple robbing and stealing with huge masks on.
Some LOL moments for me too, (i especially liked the very last line of the movie, that made it for me). Loved that their kid had an accent cause he spends more time with the spanish nanny than his own parents. Loved the whole thing about how it was ridiculously important for them to keep up appearences. See them try was quite funny.

I think when you willingly go see a movie like that you just have to seen it for what it is. And so, not the best movie ever made, of course, but not a bad first trip back to the movies in Canada.

The Hitchiker Guide to the Galaxy

vanou:

I love it! It's big! It's gold! It's fancy!
That's the quote I got from the movie, which is pretty funny...
The movie was entertaining, I laughed out loud many times (ask MP)
The story was interesting, the actors were funny.
Especially Alan Rickman as the depresive robot and Sam Rockwell as the president/surfer dude.

I would see it a second time but not so soon...
I'm glad I saw it, but I'm also glad I didn't pay the 10$ Guzzo ticket to see it.

mp:

First up, I have to say I am not the biggest fan of science fiction movies.
I have trouble with movies like this that have aliens that look like they are made out of putty. But it wasn't all bad. Although the chick with the ridiculously big eyes got on my nerves a little bit (I don't think she's a great actress), I did love the Rickman's depressive robot too, and yes, Rockwell was a bit of a hoot.
And not to give away too much, I have to say I did like the last character introduced that said:
'Ever herd of a country called Norway? I got a prize for that one.'

So to sum up, not always my cup of tea, but
I think the key to this movie is to try and enjoy the ride.

Assault on Precinct 13

vanou:

I started watching it, and it seemed pretty fine for a action flick.
Lots of shooting, lots of boob shots, lots of blood.
What you're suppose to see in an action flick...

But then I got distracted and I didn't finish the movie.
I would think about seeing it again to see the end.
It didn't look that bad.
But not that good either.

Racing Stripes

vanou:

Yeah, yeah, yeah... I know...
It's a family movie about a Zebra that wants to be a race horse...
And it's what it's supposed to be.
The animals and flies talk and the voices are all known actors which makes the movie watchable. (not a word I know)
But all in all... I watch it only because it was playing on TMN and I had nothing else to do...
I wouldn't actually sit down and watch it.
It was a kid B-movie, nothing more.

First Post

This is just to try...
We need to see the template look...
We'll be posting soon, since we have to catch up on some movie going during Christmas vacation...

Look out for our in depth look and critics of movies we go see together.
And on our own when we go back to our respective countries.
